Provisional Tax in Cyprus for 2025

Provisional Tax in Cyprus for 2025

Provisional Tax in Cyprus for 2025

If your company is registered in Cyprus and generates taxable income, understanding your provisional tax obligations for 2025 is essential. Not only does this ensure compliance with the Cyprus Income Tax Law, but it also helps maintain cash flow, avoid penalties, and align tax planning with your business strategy.

In this guide, we explain how provisional tax for companies in Cyprus works, who must pay, deadlines, penalties, and how to revise your estimates before year-end.

What Is Provisional Tax in Cyprus?

Provisional tax is an advance payment of a company’s corporate income tax, based on an estimate of the current year’s taxable profits.

Rather than waiting to pay the full tax bill after the financial year ends, Cyprus tax authorities require companies to pay it in two installments, helping to spread the financial load and encourage more accurate financial planning.

Who Is Liable to Pay Provisional Tax in 2025?

You must pay provisional tax if your company:

  • Is tax-resident in Cyprus, or

  • Is a non-resident with a permanent establishment in Cyprus

  • Expects to have taxable income in the 2025 calendar year

Companies that expect no taxable income may submit a nil declaration. However, caution is advised — underestimating profits may result in penalties.

Provisional Tax Deadlines for 2025

Your company must pay provisional tax in two equal installments:

📅 First Installment Deadline: 31 July 2025
📅 Second Installment Deadline: 31 December 2025

You can revise your estimated taxable income at any time before 31 December 2025. Payments must be submitted via the TaxisNet system or through a registered tax service provider.

How to Calculate Provisional Tax in Cyprus (2025)

To calculate your company’s provisional tax for 2025:

  1. Estimate the taxable profit for the year

  2. Apply the corporate tax rate (generally 12.5%)

  3. Divide the total tax into two equal payments

Example:

  • Estimated profit: €300,000

  • Tax at 12.5%: €37,500

  • Installments: €18,750 payable by July and December

🔹 Use real data or updated forecasts to minimize the risk of underpayment.

Revising Your Estimate Before Year-End

Tax forecasting can change — and Cyprus tax law allows flexibility. You may revise your initial estimated profit (up or down) any time before 31 December 2025.

  • Upward revision: Pay the additional tax with the second installment

  • Downward revision: You may reduce the second payment

  • Ensure supporting documentation is retained in case of audit

What Happens If You Underestimate?

If the total provisional tax paid is less than 75% of the final tax liability, the following apply:

  • ⚠️ 10% penalty on the difference

  • ⚠️ 2.25% annual interest on late payments (current legal rate)

  • ⚠️ 5% fixed penalty for late payment of each installment

That’s why reviewing your estimate later in the year — after Q3 performance — is strongly recommended.

Final Tax Return vs Provisional Tax

While provisional tax is based on an estimate, your company’s final income tax liability is declared in the Income Tax Return (Form IR4) after year-end.

  • Filing deadline: Typically 15 months after the year ends (i.e. 31 March 2027 for 2025)

  • Any balance owed is payable by 1 August 2026

If provisional tax was overpaid, the excess may be refunded or used as a credit for future periods.
