France is preparing to introduce a tax on digital services
This statement was made by the Minister of Finance of France Bruno Le Mer. This step was discussed with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, negotiations were not completed.
Therefore, Le Mayor said that France will introduce the tax on its own, regardless of the decision of the OECD.
The French government is of the opinion that that now is the best time to introduce this tax. The Minister of Finance claims that under quarantine, digital companies worked quite successfully and significantly increased their sales. Therefore, the tax can significantly replenish the French budget, which suffered from quarantine measures.
The head of the French Ministry of Finance also noted that if the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development approves a tax on digital services, France will abolish the national tax and will work on the principle of international taxation. If this does not happen, the country will retain the internal tax.
